Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller

33643994There will be plenty of time for me to beat him soundly once I’ve gotten what I came for.

Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship.

More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

Oh, the ridiculous things one has to do when one is a pirate.

I loved this so much! I really didn’t know what to expect, to be honest. I kept putting off reading it because everyone kept saying that it was just a girl Jack Sparrow. Don’t ask me why, but it made not want to read it.

BIG MISTAKE! This book starts off with action right in the beginning and the action did not stop there. Alosa ain’t afraid to get down and dirty or kill somebody if she has too. Did I mention that she is a female captain and has damn near a completely female crew on her ship? I’M ALL FOR THAT!

Alosa has hands down became my favorite protagonist I have read about this year!

I am power and strength. I am death and destruction. I am not someone to be trifled with.

She was strong, witty, and such a pleasure to read about. I never knew what was going to come out of her mouth. Man, this girl was brave! I couldn’t get enough of reading about her.

“So tell me, Alosa. What sorts of things have you had to do to earn your father’s love?”

“The usual. Cheat. Steal. Kill.”

I’ve read reviews about how some people didn’t like the romance between her and Ridan. I guess I’m an unpopular opinion with that one because I did like them! I liked that they didn’t focus on it as much as they could have. We got moments between them that had me on the edge of my seat. But we also got some moments that weren’t romantic at all. They opened up to each other and learn to trust the other. I also loved the banter between them.

This book shocked me and I’m so glad to have this on my bookshelf. If you been thinking about picking this up, then don’t hesitate!

Bring on Daughter of the Siren Queen!
