Cinder
Marissa Meyer
My Rating: 💜💜💜
A forbidden romance.
A deadly plague.
Earth’s fate hinges on one girl . . .
CINDER, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She’s reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she finds herself at the center of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen – and a dangerous temptation.
Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth’s future.
This is not the fairytale you remember. But it’s one you won’t forget.
So I can finally scratch Cinder off my Goodreads bucket list! Ever since I signed up for Goodreads five years ago, I have been seeing the Lunar Series everywhere. I always said I would give it a try but I never got around to it. I saw it at Half Priced Books over the weekend and decided to pick it up.
The concept made me so ready to read this. A Cinderella retelling, Cyborgs, all set in New Beijing? YES!
Sadly, my enthusiasm didn’t last throughout the whole book. This was a very typical YA. Now I’m not saying it’s a bad book, it was just nothing new or surprising and it was extremely predictable.
Now while it was predictable, there were some things I did like about it. I loved the world building in this one. I loved the different races we get. Androids, humans, cyborgs, and lunars. It did hold my attention and kept me wanting to find out what would happen once Kai found out what she was.
So overall, it wasn’t bad. Just feel like it was a bit too predictable of a YA to say that I loved it. I will probably continue with the series, but I’ll just borrow them from the library instead of purchasing them myself.
I just started The Lunar Chronicles this week! And sadly I’m on the same boat as you – it’s not bad but it’s really typical YA. I was also thinking that if I had read it years ago I would have absolutely adored this, but now it felt tired and predictable (not even half way through I already know how it’ll play out). But I do have to agree that the world building is fantastic and the fairytale retelling is well done but also original.

Aww darn, I’m sorry to see you didn’t love it, Kayla! I still really enjoyed this book despite how predictable it was. I personally thought the series progressively got more exciting and mature as they continued. Plus, there are new characters who are introduced that are amazing! Haha. Great review! ❤

Sorry you didn’t enjoy this one much! I adore TLC although I will say the first book is less exciting as the others. The last book is my favourite! Hope you enjoy the other books more!

It’s weird but I still read books for a younger audience and enjoy them. So who knows 😀

Great honest review! I’ve read the first two books in the Lunar Chronicles and I loved them but they’re not my favorites. I hope to finish rest of the series someday. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the next book.
