Books That I have Recently DNF’d

So I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump for the past week. I know, I know. It’s a reader’s worst nightmare. So since I don’t have any reviews to post, I thought I would share some books that just didn’t match well with me. Let’s get into it! 

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

I really wanted to like this one. Especially since it has such great reviews on Goodreads. But nope, just nope. I called it a DNF in chapter 7.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I’m not wasn’t even going to try to continue reading this. So far this is offensive AF and I just can’t read this.

“Jungle fever is a thing,” Cal said.
“For black people. If you like black people. And it’s not a compliment, I don’t think.”
“Your people come from the jungle,” Call said, pointing at Park. 

“Park’s eyes got wide. Well, sort of wide.
Sometimes she wondered if the shape of his eyes affected how he saw things.”

Life is too short for me to read books that offend me just because they are popular.

Sex, Not Love by Vi Keeland

My relationship with Hunter Delucia started backwards.

We met at a wedding—him sitting on the groom’s side, me sitting on the bride’s. Stealing glances at each other throughout the night, there was no denying an intense, mutual attraction. 

I caught the bouquet; he caught the garter. Hunter held me tightly while we danced and suggested we explore the chemistry sparking between us. His blunt, dirty mouth should’ve turned me off. But for some crazy reason, it had the opposite effect on me.

We ended up back in my hotel room. The next morning, I headed home to New York leaving him behind in California with the wrong number.

I thought about him often, but after my last relationship, I’d sworn off of charming, cocky, gorgeous-as-sin men. A year later, Hunter and I met again at the birth of our friends’ baby. Our attraction hadn’t dulled one bit. After a whirlwind trip, he demanded a real phone number this time. So I left him with my mother’s—she could scare away any man with her talks of babies and marriage—and flew back home.

I’d thought it was funny, until the following week when he rang the bell at Mom’s house for Sunday night dinner. The crazy, gorgeous man had won over my mother and taken an eight-week assignment in my city. He proposed we spend that time screwing each other out of our systems.

Eight weeks of mind-blowing sex with no strings attached? What did I have to lose?

Nothing, I thought.
It’s just sex, not love.
But you know what they say about the best laid plans…

I really tried! I really wanted to like this, but I just couldn’t. I couldn’t stand Hunter!! He was this biggest playboy I have read about in a while! I didn’t even want to keep reading because of his crude remarks. Seriously, he overheard a conversation between Natalia and her friend about having a one-night stand and of course he volunteers himself for the part. After she turns him down, he purses her like no other, made crude remarks and kept offering her sex.

Also, I did not enjoy the flashbacks of him and his ex. What was the point of this? We are supposed to reading about him and Natalia, not how he fell in love with his ex. I had to stop!

Yes, I know. The Fifty Shades of Grey series is a very controversial series. However, I enjoyed it with its flawed characters and VERY flawed writing. I even enjoyed the first in Christians POV, but THIS? 

Who the hell is this person and where is the real Christan Grey? He came off sweet and like a great guy. If you read the book then you know he was fucked up in the damn head! I might come back to this at a later time since I spend my money on it.
