The Governess Game
Girl Meets Duke #2
by Tessa Dare
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
After her livelihood slips through her fingers, Alexandra Mountbatten takes on an impossible post: transforming a pair of wild orphans into proper young ladies. However, the girls don’t need discipline. They need a loving home. Try telling that to their guardian, Chase Reynaud: duke’s heir in the streets and devil in the sheets. The ladies of London have tried—and failed—to make him settle down. Somehow, Alexandra must reach his heart… without risking her own.
The infamous rake.
Like any self-respecting libertine, Chase lives by one rule: no attachments. When a stubborn little governess tries to reform him, he decides to give her an education—in pleasure. That should prove he can’t be tamed. But Alexandra is more than he bargained for: clever, perceptive, passionate. She refuses to see him as a lost cause. Soon the walls around Chase’s heart are crumbling… and he’s in danger of falling, hard.
Others in this series:
1. The Duchess Deal ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“Any sensible young woman would hesitate to accept employment in the house of a scandalous rake—even if the rake’s wards were perfect angels. Chase’s wards were incorrigible, morbid hellions.”
So I’m starting to think that Tessa Dare’s writing was made for me. True, this is only my second book by her, but I’m obsessed! Which is shocking because I was completely against Historical Romance!
Just like the first book, it was filled with humor and just great dialogue. However, who really stole the show were Chase’s wards, Rosamund and Daisy. These girls were a hoot! Especially Daisy and her doll who just happens to die every morning from some new disease!
Alex was such a damn treat to read about. She was smart, witty, and unaware of how amazing she was. Chase had the reputation of a player and asshole and he had been playing into in for so long he didn’t know how to be anyone different. As you probably guessed, Alex made him want to be different.
I smiled so hard from the interaction between these two!! Between the sexual tension and just the fact that they couldn’t keep their hands off one another, I was glued to the pages.
“We should go after the girls.”
“Yes, we should.”
Neither of them moved.
Alex bit her lip. “We’re going to kiss instead, aren’t we.”
“You’re goddamned right, we are.”
Oh goodness ya’ll! I needed this book to end in a happy ending or what I going to toss it across the room.
Now the reason I couldn’t rate it 5 stars was because Chase needed a good slap once or twice. True, he was so used to being a rake but that didn’t mean he had to be so back and forth with Alex. He was so scared of feeling something for her that he was probably giving her whiplash from pushing her away and then coming back.
While I didn’t love it as much as the first book in the series, This was a great story! I loved the characters and the romance was downright awesome.
I need to read Tessa Dare. Everyone seems to love her writing, and you obviously do.

I actually just read this one too (because I also just read Duchess Deal per YOUR recommendation) and I moostly really liked it. I think I gave it a solid three stars because of the Chase whiplash… seriously!! But the fourth time he had changed his mind AGAIN about having a relationship with Alex I was less willing to forgive. But I LOVE the witty characters and I particularly loved the doll that just kept dying. LOL. ❤

How did you like The Duchess Deal? I’m so glad that you read it!
But yes, Chase needed a good slap to the face. Alex caring for those girls warmed my damn heart so much!
