What a Difference a Duke Makes
School for Duke’s #1
by Lenora Bell
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Edgar Rochester, Duke of Banksford, is one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in England, but when it comes to raising twins alone, he knows he needs help. The only problem is the children have chased away half the governesses in London. Until the clever, bold, and far-too-enticing Miss Mari Perkins arrives.
Lost: One heart to an arrogant duke
Mari knows how to wrap even the most rebellious children around her finger. But their demanding, wickedly handsome father? He won’t be quite so easy to control. And there’s something else she can’t seem to command. Her heart. The foolish thing beats so wildly every time the duke is near.
Found: A forbidden passion neither can deny
As his employee, Mari is strictly off-limits. But what if she’s the one breaking all his rules? In the game of governess versus duke, how can Edgar maintain his defenses when the only thing he wants to do is let the tempting beauty win?
A duke needing a governess is starting to become a favorite trope of mine in this genre. I adored this and the characters. It was so easy to become lost in this story.
It didn’t take long for me to adore Mari. She was sweet, wonderful to the kids, and never failed to put Edgar in his place. It was so easy to care for her that you just can’t help but want everything to work out for her. Edgar was broodish and didn’t know how to do anything but occupy himself with work. They were very different but it clicked when they met one another.
“When you’re in a room, everything gravitates toward you, haven’t you noticed? The way you were able to charm the children in such short order. The way you charm me. Disarm me.”
These two together made my heart sing. Edgar fought to not fall for Mari, but it was completely useless. He was a goner as soon as she stepped foot into his office asking for a job. There was a push and pull going on here between them and the romance wasn’t rushed. They took time getting to know each other and letting each other see the real them. However, that doesn’t mean that we didn’t get some steamy scenes in the meantime!
The best part of this story for me was seeing Edgar, Mari, and the kids together. If them becoming a family doesn’t make you giddy with happiness, then you must have a heart of ice.
The next book will be about Edgar’s sister India and that’s one that I can’t wait for. Enemies to lovers? Sign me up!
I love when we get some family time in a book!!!! And I did not know you went for historical romance Kayla! 😉
