Hey, guys! It’s time for another Top 5 Tuesday. This tag is hosted by Shannah over at Bionic Book Worm.
Today’s topic is Books that I didn’t get to in 2018. Since this was my first year blogging, I prioritized new releases and didn’t read many backlist titles. These five are the ones that I hate that I didn’t get to this year and will try my best to read early 2019.
I am down for buddy reading any of these titles. Just let me know guys!
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
I’ve had my eye on this one for a while and finally bought the ebook when it was on sale for black Friday recently. The base of this story really intrigued me. Private school, kidnappings, and mystery. It doesn’t sound like something I would read, but something about it makes me want to read it!
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Mass
I was on a reading roll with the Throne of Glass series at the beginning of this year. By the time I got to Empire of Storms, I was burned out. I don’t if it’s because contemporary is my primary genre or not, but the amount of attention that this series requires is a lot. With the series ending this year, I’m determined to finish it in 2019.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Here me out, I never thought Six of Crows would be for me. With all the fanart and love of the book community, I purchased the paperback a couple of months ago. I still can’t believe I haven’t cracked it open. I have to rectify the situation on this.
Tattered by Devney Perry
If I had to pick an author that my romance friends want me to read, I would automatically say Devney Perry. The Lake Cove series is one that I’m getting beat over the head with to read. I actually started her Jamison Valley series earlier this month and love her writing so I could see myself loving this.
The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker
I’ve been told that if I love romance, then I will love this one. Every single one of my book friends who has read this has given it 5 stars. If that doesn’t make it even sadder that I haven’t read it, then I don’t know what will.
What are the books that you weren’t able to get to in 2018? Do we have any in common?
Thanks for reading!
I went through the same thing in my first year of blogging. I was really good at keeping up with the new releases, but my backlist was put on hold and it made me sad! I hope that you can find a balance between both in 2019 🙂

I’m working on finding that balance. I really want to get back to some backlist titles in 2019!

I didn’t get to read Six of Crows either, though I meant to! My paperback has been sitting on my shelf staring at me since like May because of it, but I just keep putting it off!

Me too, and I don’t know why. I even have the ebook too!

So many people do seem to love it. I think that’s why it’s taken me so long to read it, because of all the book hype.

Moment of truth? I just finished it, and there are problems. More problems that I would’ve liked to be honest, which is disappointing of course🙀

I meant to finish the All Souls trilogy but only read the first book. I started reading the second book but had to put it down because I was hating it. I will finish the series eventually since I own all of them!

I hate when that happens! That happened to me with the Selection series.

Yesssss! I loved The Simple Wild, easily one of my new favorite romances. 🙂 Hope you get to it in 2019. I think it’s the perfect winter read since it’s set in Alaska.

I put it on hold at the library a couple of days ago so I’m hoping it will come before my christmas break so I snuggle in and read it!

Caraval is probably the number one book I haven’t gotten around to reading this year. I have owned a copy of it all year and have wanted to read it badly, but never picked it up. I also need to finish the rest of “The Selection” series. I read books 1-3 and waited for a moment to read the others since they are in the future. On your list, I have wanted to read “Six of Crows” for awhile. Good choices to get around to! Hope you do in 2019.

I hope you get to the Caraval series soon. I loved the world building in that series! SOC is on my “have to read” list.
Lets hope we both get to read the books we have been wanting to read!

I meant to get to SoC this year as well and it’s killing me that I still haven’t. I’m putting it at the top of my TBR for next year because I want to read King of Scars so bad.

Six of Crows is probably going to be a victim of not getting to it this year, (sorry Sam). I hope you enjoy it and Truly Devious though! I am going to re-read the latter before the sequel releases if you wanna try for a lowkey buddy read

I would love to buddy read Truly Devious with you Kaleena! Just let me know when is a good time for you.

YAAAS! The sequel comes out January 22nd (!), but I am open to anytime in January honestly. When works for you?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I am free to start it anytime. What about after the holiday? Like on the 27th?

Tentatively that should work for me! I am taking that week off of work so have lots of time. I know you don’t do well with structured buddy reads but since it’s a re-read for me it should be easy and lowkey!
