The Kiss Thief by L.J. Shen

The Kiss Thief

My Rating: ⭐⭐

They say your first kiss should be earned.

Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky.

They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred.

Mine were broken before we left church.

They say your heart only beats for one man.

Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end.

I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit.

Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.

They say that all great love stories have a happy ending.

I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.

One kiss.
Two men.
Three lives.
Entwined together.

And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.

thoughtssFriends I really wanted to five star this one. So freakin’ bad! However, I just wasn’t able to. I can honestly see myself being the minority on this one also. While I haven’t been able to jump on the L.J. Shen train completely, I have enjoyed some of her other books.

Was it the hype? Maybe. I can tell you for sure that it had to do with the protagonist (more on her later), the love triangle (I did this to myself, this is my least favorite trope), and just the amount of drama that was put into the book. You guys, most of this was my fault. It was hinted about a love triangle in here but I wanted to read it anyway. Maybe I had hopes that it would barely touch on that. Always listen to your first mind!

I can tell you now, most of my issues relied with Francesca. I found her to be immature and weak minded. She mad rash decisions and really needed a reality check. There were so many times that I wanted to shake her and maybe a slap or two as well. You guys, I don’t think I’ve been annoyed by a character more … well, maybe Rosie from Ruckus. Bottom line, don’t expect her on my list of favorite protagonist.

“With Angelo, I felt warm and fuzzy. Under a rich blanket of security. With Wolfe, I felt as if I was on fire. “

I can get the appeal of Wolfe. While he wasn’t my favorite asshole Shen has given us, I did like him and came to respect him. The way he was, the things he did, they all made sense once we got bits and pieces of his background. Honestly, I would have loved him but I couldn’t truly forgive him for some of the things he did.

What I can’t deny is that these two had steamy chemistry through the pages. The sexual tension between these two burned bright and their sex scenes were some of my favorite scenes in the book.

While I didn’t love this one, this one will be good for readers who like arranged marriages and enemies to lovers.

I received an ARC for an honest review. The quote was taken from an ARC is subject to change upon publication.

  1. It was definitely interesting, that’s for sure! I loved Wolfe and Francesca together. They sparked so much heat. I am guessing I had the same issue you did with one part of their story. It was too much for me. I enjoyed this one otherwise, though.

  2. Great honest review! Other people were saying it wasn’t really a love triangle because it was obvious who she was going to end up with. I hate love triangles, but since that is the case I might read this as my first LJ Shen book. Is there cheating in this?
