They call him the Duke of Ruin.
To an undaunted wallflower, he’s just the beast next door.
Wealthy and ruthless, Gabriel Duke clawed his way from the lowliest slums to the pinnacle of high society—and now he wants to get even.
Loyal and passionate, Lady Penelope Campion never met a lost or wounded creature she wouldn’t take into her home and her heart.
When her imposing—and attractive—new neighbor demands she clear out the rescued animals, Penny sets him a challenge. She will part with her precious charges, if he can find them loving homes.
Done, Gabriel says. How hard can it be to find homes for a few kittens?
And a two-legged dog.
And a foul-mouthed parrot.
And a goat, an otter, a hedgehog . . .
Easier said than done, for a cold-blooded bastard who wouldn’t know a loving home from a workhouse. Soon he’s covered in cat hair, knee-deep in adorable, and bewitched by a shyly pretty spinster who defies his every attempt to resist. Now she’s set her mind and heart on saving him.
Not if he ruins her first.
»The Duchess Deal ★★★★★
»The Governess Game ★★★★ I enjoyed this quite a bit! The humor and Tessa Dare’s writing that you know and love makes this book a great addition to the series! I knew Penelope’s story was going to be a good one and I wasn’t disappointed.
This book started off with Penny losing her parrot and breaking into her new neighbor’s house to catch it. You guys, it was a hell of a meet cute! Gabe didn’t know what to make of her. He thought he would be able to stay away, but he couldn’t help but fall for the crazy neighbor with all these animals.
I must say, I think this one was the steamiest to date in this series! And I’m certainly not mad it! The sexual tension between these two was so awesome to read about. I couldn’t get enough, and I was seriously a fiend for every stolen moment between them.
“She was a fool. A naive, trusting, sheltered fool. And Gabe wanted to corrupt her so damned badly, his bones ached.”
Penny had a past that really made sense to her character. She was easily loveable and we really got to see how big her heart was. Although her eccentrics over the animals was quite a bit much at times. Gabe was crass and didn’t know if he wanted to be a loner or a swoon worthy hero. Together these two made a hilariously good match!
I was really surprised to find out how sex positive this was! Penny wasn’t one of those ladies that wanted to stay in a neat package and wasn’t one to shy away from her sexuality. She wanted to give in to her urges and lust. She did what she wanted and what felt right to her. It was great to see in this book!
We do get to see our friends from the two previous books and it was quite a treat. The humor when all of them get together left me laughing to myself at my work desk. Chase and Ash always seemed to make me laugh when they were on the page. Throw Gabe into that mix and I almost had tears in my eyes from trying to keep my laughter to myself.
All in all, besides a few Penny’s eccentrics, I loved it! This series just gets better and better and I can’t wait for the next book!
