Debut author Sarah Smith nails this fun and sexy multicultural romance where two office foes hammer out their differences to build a love that will last…

Emmie Echavarre is a professional faker. She has to be to survive as one of the few female employees at Nuts & Bolts, a power tool company staffed predominantly by gruff, burly men. From nine to five, Monday through Friday, she’s tough as nails–the complete opposite of her easy-going real self.

One thing she doesn’t have to fake? Her disdain for coworker Tate Rasmussen. Tate has been hostile to her since the day they met. Emmie’s friendly greetings and repeated attempts to get to know him failed to garner anything more than scowls and terse one-word answers. Too bad she can’t stop staring at his Thor-like biceps…

When Emmie and Tate are forced to work together on a charity construction project, things get…heated. Emmie’s beginning to see that beneath Tate’s chiseled exterior lies a soft heart, but it will take more than a few kind words to erase the past and convince her that what they have is real.

MY feelings

“Fake can be empowering. It’s human nature. It’s necessary.”

I really enjoyed this one, you guys! As soon as I saw that this had the enemies to lovers trope I knew that I had to read it. If you’ve been reading my reviews for a while then you know that this is one of my favorite tropes. Let me say this, this book gave me The Hating Game vibes and I was head over heels for it!

Emmie was such an easy to care for main character. She felt that she had to have two personalities while working since she worked at a male dominated place. She was such a spitfire but was also sweet!

Tate stole my heart so early in this book. I will always love and stan soft guys and Tate is such a cinnamon roll! While he was closed off in the beginning, you soon get to realize why he is the way he is. Also, reading about a man who wasn’t scared to voice the insecurities he had about himself was gold.

The romance. The F R E A K I N G romance! I don’t think I could have loved this couple more if I actually tried. They had steamy chemistry, was WAY too adorable for words, and they made me smile so hard my cheeks hurt. Reading about Tate and Emmie falling in love and navigating their relationship added years to my life.

What I really enjoyed here was the low conflict. I know that isn’t a popular thing for most, but I love it. I’m not big for angst and drama in my romance. While we did get a conflict, it was like a speed bump and the couple quickly moved past it.

As much as I did enjoy this, I did have to take off a star because there were a few things that made me raise an eyebrow. Such as her seeming to be really obsessed with his pale skin and then the actual conflict of this story. However, I let the good outweigh the bad here.

All in all, I really enjoyed this debut and can’t wait to see what else Sarah writes!4 Star Rating

I received an ARC via the author for an honest review and the quote was taken from an ARC and is subject to change upon publication.

      1. Yes! It’s just – I love reading romance to see people fall in love and discover lovely things about each other and have chemistry… not to get anxiety I’ll read other genres for that!
