They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.

Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.

Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.

And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

MY feelings I’m really kicking myself for waiting for so long to read this. I devoured this story and ended up really enjoying it!

This takes place after the Four Horsemen come to earth to reak havoc and the first one up was Pestilence. (also, yes. I pictured him like he is on this glorious cover) I’m so glad that there will be books every single one of them because I’m a cover whore and can’t wait to see the rest.

I fell in love with Pestilence so early on, guys. Yes, he was downright mean and had a lot to learn about humanity. I mean, he one of the four horsemen. Did you really expect him to be any different? I’m going to come back to that later. We got to witness so much growth in his character from the start of the book to the end. So you are probably wondering about our heroine, Sara. I was all for her for most of this book, right until the 60% mark. She became really irritating to me. She fell in love with Pestilence. The actual Pestilence and couldn’t fathom why he would still be putting a plaque on the world.

That my friends are where my issues started. She knew who and what he was when she first him. I hated that she tried to use her love and teaching him humanity as a way to change him. Yes, it’s fucked up what he was put on earth to do. I get that. However, that’s who he was when she decided to love him.

Which brings me to my other issue. Pestilence gave his love so freely that I had to put the book down at times. He constantly shared his feelings and his thoughts with Sara. She, however, fought him every step of the way. Even when she knew she was in love with him, she would say things that devalued his feelings and to cheapen what was happening between them just to save herself. That got old quite fast.

If Sara would have made different choices and “something” didn’t happen, then this book would have had a 5 star rating from me. I was so engrossed in how the world was after they arrived and seeing the relationship change between Pestilence and Sara.

To end this review, I enjoyed it but not loved it as I had wanted to. War’s book has been released and I have already downloaded it because I need more of these horsemen.

TW: talk of attempted rape; bits of gore; violence against humans and a horse

This was a buddy read with the lovely Autumn over at Chapter Malliumpkin.4 Star Rating

      1. Would you like to do a Buddy Read for it? If you’d prefer to do it on your own though, that’s fine! I’m always up for a buddy read though if you ever find a good book and want to do one 🙂 Hope you enjoy it!

  1. So glad you enjoyed this one! I need to read War as well. It’s been staring at me from my kindle and I have heard it’s better than Pestilence!
Also have to agree with you on Sara. Like, you knew he was a horseman. Who do you think you are that you are going to stop him?
