Am I actually reviewing a Talia Hibbert book? Yup, I know, I’m shocked too! If you are a frequent reader of my blog then you know that I have read and DNFed three of her books so far. So you are probably wondering why in the hell did I pick this up. Well, I won’t lie. It has to do with the cover and that it’s her first traditionally published book. 

What really kept me reading here was the dry humor and witty banter. There was so much banter! Between Chloe and Red, Chloe and her sisters, and even Chloe and her grandmother. I adored it! It makes me want to invite myself over for tea. 

As far as character wise goes, I did run into a problem with Chloe. I was only 10% in and I knew that she was going to try my patience. I can honestly see how she came off as an uptight person to Red. While that faded for him, it didn’t for me. I know, she has a chronic illness. However, that doesn’t give her the reason to treat people the way she did. Basically, her attitude isn’t going to be for everyone.

I enjoyed Red’s character for the most part. Just like Chloe, his life hasn’t been without hardship. He’s trying to rebuild himself from an abusive ex and his career that he walked away from. Sometimes you just wanted to shake him so that he could get out of his own head.

I think besides my dislike for Chloe, the other issue I had was that I didn’t buy them as a couple. I just wasn’t sold on them being more than friends for the most part. Even over the halfway mark I still wasn’t convinced. It’s hard to really enjoy a romance when you don’t really think there is one. 

I know that Hibbert showcases a lot of diversity in the books and she didn’t skimp out here! This is own voices, talks about chronic illness, and even has an interracial relationship. There is so much here and it was good to see!

So did I enjoy it? I thought it was okay. Nothing here wowed me or made me swoon. There is some great diversity and great humor. If you are a fan of Hibbert’s novels or just want to have a laugh or two, then give this a chance.
