From New York Times Bestselling Author, Kristen Proby, comes an all new paranormal romance set in the mystical city of New Orleans…

I am never alone. Not even when I am alone.
I see the unquiet dead, the souls that wander through the French Quarter.
They can’t move on, and I can’t stop seeing them.
I wear malachite for protection, and I control what I let in. It’s the only way to stay sane. Everything changes the day Cassian Winslow joins my ghost walking tour and knocks my world off its axis with green eyes the color of the stone around my neck.
An unspeakable evil is loose in New Orleans, taking young women and leaving a bloodbath in his wake. More shadows lurking for me. More unhappy dead. There might be a way to stop it.
Open myself up to Cassian.
If I do, it could spell his death.
But if I don’t, it’s mine.

MY feelingsThis was Proby’s first paranormal/thriller book and I’m having a hard time believing that. The way she wrote this didn’t come off as her first time writing in this genre. I’m thinking she’s been holding back on us!

First things first, I loved the atmosphere here. Having it set in New Orleans was amazing and gave it that gothic feel. Some of the scenes here gave me chills and has me thinking twice about heading back to New Orleans. Please be aware of the trigger warnings I put at the end of my review. Most things don’t bother me, but there were some scenes that made me take pause and come back.

Character-wise I liked everyone that we met. Especially Brielle and her sisters! I loved the idea of three sisters all have different gifts living in New Orleans. The bond between them and reading about them in their different elements was really interesting. I could be biased since witches in threes are my favorite. i.e. (Charmed, the Sanderson sisters, etc)

We did have a romance here between Brielle and Cash. They met and felt like they knew each other before. Maybe in a past life? I need more information on that. Anyway, while I did like them together, I can say that I wish we got a little bit more actual romance scenes between them. There are a lot of moments of finding a killer but not so much between them actually getting to be on their own.

I’m glad this is a series because there are things that I need more information on. Character’s backgrounds and more information about the prophecy of things. From the way this book ended, I’m left wanting more and can’t wait to be in Millie’s POV in the next book.

If you are in the mood for a gothic and gory type story, then I would give this a try!
