He was just a guy who walked through a restaurant. I didn’t know his name. We never made eye contact. There was no connection between us at all.
But I could feel him.
The tingle down my spine. The command in his presence. The snap of tension in the air around him. That was the first time I saw him, and I was captivated.
The second time was different.
He was in the mysterious back elevator of my apartment building. Our eyes met for a fleeting second before the doors closed, and I was staggered. My breath was robbed. My senses on high alert. My body hummed.
That was just the beginning.
He was the leader of the mafia. I was about to fall in love with him, and his name…
Cole Mauricio.

This had a dead spouse and you know I hate that. What irked me even more was the fact that Addison was so hurt and always thinking about Liam. While she did have few thoughts about moving on in life, she basically spent the first 20% of the book wallowing about her dead husband. But, as soon as she sees Cole all that went out the window. That gave me whiplash and the romance wasn’t really believable. Especially since she was just grieving! She was like “dead husband who?”
Plot-wise, this did move pretty fast and we had action along with some steamy scenes. I was pretty surprised a few times with the plot twists and some of the secrets that were revealed. I have to give it to Tijan on that one. She always knows how to give a good surprise.
To keep it short, while the romance wasn’t really believable, the story kept my attention. If you want a mafia romance from Tijan that I liked more, I would check out Bennet Mafia.

Lately, I’ve been very picky about the books I read since I’m not reading as much as I normally do so I’ll probably pass on this one but thanks so much for sharing your thoughts as I have been looking at some Tijan books to read.

This is one I haven’t read. I have it (got it for free), but it’s been sitting on my Kindle. I read the first Carter Reed and it wasn’t my favorite… I never read the second book. I think I’ll still try this one at some point just to try it, but your review makes me a little more hesitant than I already was. Great review.
