Power, prestige, and plenty of women, the dapper politician’s life is pretty phenomenal. But in the midst of the biggest campaign of his life, he needs to focus. The last thing he can afford is a distraction.
ALISON BAKER is a work-in-progress.
As a single mother to HUXLEY, she’s rebuilding life on her terms. She’s focused on family, faith, and a future for her son that can’t be taken away. Putting her child first means not being careless, no matter what.
A chance encounter forces Barrett and Alison to redefine what they really want out of life. But everything comes at a cost … and sometimes, even for love, it’s a price too steep to pay.
I picked this up after seeing a friend review a book in this series pretty high. It was my first book from this author and I have to say that I enjoyed her writing. But I do have to admit that I won’t be eating grapes for a while. IYKYK
What shined for me was Alison as the main character and Barrett’s family. I loved how even though Alison has her past and was scared of being with Barrett, she gave it her all. Even when politics and mean women tried to keep her down. She was relatable and easy to like. Barrett’s family dynamic was pretty good. I liked all the different personalities of his brothers and sisters and how supportive everyone was of each other.
What makes this a three star read for me is that there was a touch too much drama. Every time you turned around there was some type of drama surrounding Barrett and his campaign. It started to feel like it made the romance take a backseat. Along with that, Barrett came off a bit weak and as a pushover. It took him forever to stand up to some people and also realize that he needed to do what was best for him.
While this wasn’t terrible, it was okay. I did enjoy the writing and plan to continue reading more of this series.
