For two centuries, all of the Darling women have disappeared on their 18th birthday. Sometimes they’re gone for only a day, some a week or a month. But they always return broken.
Now, on the afternoon of my 18th birthday, my mother is running around the house making sure all the windows are barred and the doors locked.
But it’s pointless.
Because when night falls, he comes for me. And this time, the Never King and the Lost Boys aren’t willing to let me go.
The Never King is a dark retelling of Peter and Wendy. If you like your enemies to lovers romance with hot, ruthless, morally gray love interests, you’ll enjoy The Never King and the Lost Boys. You can expect hate kissing, fighting, bickering, and ‘touch her and I’ll unalive you’ vibes.
Have you ever read a book at the right time and truly enjoyed it? That was me with The Never King. TikTok has let me down plenty of times with recommendations but I still try them out from time to time. They finally gave me a recommendation I liked! If you are up for a dark reverse harem peter pan retelling then pick this up.
This hooked me from the beginning with the impending doom of Peter Pan coming for Winnie Darling. I found the idea of every Darling being taken once they turned 18 so interesting. I couldn’t help but wonder what the secrets would be and if she was going to go crazy like her mother.
“Please, Pan. Oh god.” “Go on then,” he says. “Come for me while the Lost Boys watch.
Since this is a bit dark and a reverse harem, there were a few spicy scenes that were quite hot to read. The chemistry between Winnie, Peter Pan, and the lost boys was delicious. I can’t wait to read more about it and get more scenes in the second book. I am also still waiting on Vane to give in already!
There are some things that could be triggering for some. There is talk of bodily harm caused by a parent and other people. Along with a fine line between dubious consent and non-consent.
All in all, I enjoyed this quite a bit. If you are into Peter Pan or reverse harems, then definitely pick this up. I’m so glad that I waited to pick this up and didn’t have to wait for book two!
YOU NEVER GIVE 5 STARS! *gasps* This one MUST be good! I don’t know that a reverse harem Peter Pan retelling would be for me, but I love that you loved this one so much. Kudos to Tiktok for finally getting something right!

Trust me, I was shocked too! I read it at the right time and couldn’t put it down. I read the second book the next day and speed through it too. I haven’t read a reverse harem in so long so I was so shocked.

What a great review you have here Kayla! I have never been for the reverse harem (although I have never tried it) but this one has been so tempting to try out. I do love peter pan retellings though. I am really loving your review here and I love that it was a FIVE STAR read for you! That is a great recommendation. .
