Series: The Maxwell Brothers
Author: Layla Hagen
Check it Out: Goodreads

As a divorced single father, I live by three rules:
1. Make sure every day my daughter, Paisley, knows she’s number one in my life. No. Matter. What.
2. Keep contact with my cheating ex-wife to a minimum.
3. Turn Maxwell Wineries into a legacy that keeps Paisley set for life.

When I hire Lexi to look after my daughter, I realize I need another rule: don’t pursue Paisley’s nanny.
But even if I had that rule it wouldn’t matter. Because I’m breaking it already.

MY feelingsThis was cute. It was my first book by this author and I’m willing to read more. Her writing is simple, but not in a bad way. It made the story easy to read and get a feel for the characters.

The relationship between Liam and Lexi was sweet. I liked the way their relationship progressed. They were what each other needed and also made a good trio with Paisley.

I did have some issues here. One of my issues was that even though this was the first in the series, I felt like I should have read something else by this author. There were so many family members introduced from the Maxwells that either they were introduced in other series, or we were just getting an info dump. That chopped up the story for me because I’m trying to remember who was who and how they were related.

Another issue for me was that while I enjoyed most of this, it was really just a lot of this everyday life, and the issues were pushed to the back burner. We had the drama of Liam’s grandmother’s bookstore and Reese’s ex who’s trying to ruin the family name. It really took a lot from the romance here.

All in all, this was cute but not going to be something I’ll reach for again.

  1. I don’t know if I’ve read this author or not. Probably not. It sounds like it had the possibilities to be great if it had not involved all those info dumps, etc about the previous character. Sorry that ruined things a bit for you.

  2. I have been very curious about this author, but not sure if I will pick her up or not. I need to look through the backlist and see if any book really tugs at me. Great review on this one here. Not every author can handle the everyday life stuff and blend it in with the romance super well. I hope your next read is a much better one though.
