Seeking women ages 18–32 to participate in a study on ethics and morality. Generous compensation. Anonymity guaranteed.

When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave. But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking…and what she’s hiding. As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

From the authors of the blockbuster bestseller, The Wife Between Us comes an electrifying new novel about doubt, passion, and just how much you can trust someone.

MY feelings

I have been wanting to read something by these two ladies for quite some time. I have to admit, the writing here was amazing! They really knew how to draw a reader in and keep them there. I finished this in two days time. This had a very creepy vibe and I enjoyed that.

“Sometimes a relationship that appears caring and supportive carries hidden danger. Sometimes a therapist who coaxes out all of your secrets is holding the biggest one in the room.”

I was so entranced by these characters and this study on morality. Some of the questions that Dr. Shields asked really made me think. What gives this book a more thrilling aspect was the second person viewpoint of Dr. Shields. The web of lies and just how everything was connected was really brilliant.

You’re probably wondering why I only rated it three. That is because of the big reveal. I was l down by how everything ended. The buildup towards the end was such a great journey and then it just fell flat. The ending felt rushed and I was expecting more.

All in all, I did enjoy most of this book. I will definitely be reading more from these two authors.3 Star Rating

  1. I started this audiobook and was very intrigued by how it was written. I ended up not finishing it because I just wasn’t in the mood for the vibe it had. I think I need to go back to it sometime after reading your review. Even if the reveal wasn’t great, I am still curious enough about it. Great review!
