“I thought I knew who I was, but I was wrong.”
The Silver Swan
– 1. A girl who is tarnished. Tainted. One who does not fit into the confinement of legend.
The Silver Swan
-2. Madison Montgomery.
I was lied to.
I was cheated.
Resigned to pick up the scraps of empty memories and disarrayed thoughts, I left. After finally cutting the strings of manipulation, I resorted to do what I’ve done since I was a child, something my father drilled into my brain since I could handle my first rifle.
Run.
I’m a mere shadow of the girl they all knew.
Lies and deceit change you. They alter your entire outlook on life.
I’m Madison Montgomery, and I want to play a game.
Here’s what happens when I win.
Riddle me this, Mads.
What goes bump in the night,
but is something you can’t see with sight?
You may run, and you may hide.
If by happily ever after, you mean Bonnie & Clyde.
Ratings of Previous Books:
♛Silver Swan ✩✩✩
Trigger warnings: rape, violence/assault, and death.
“They warned me that I was just a pawn in their game—I move when they want me to move, speak when they want me to speak. I just didn’t realize it until now.”
Holy Shit!! I was struggling between 3 or 4 stars for this one. After I thought about it some more I knew I had to give it 4. The reactions I had from reading were nothing short of amazement, dread, and straight up shock. Amo Jones didn’t hold back in this second book and I’m damn near bowing at her feet. I read this in one sitting because I couldn’t keep my eyes away from my Kindle. Every time I put it down to try and do something else, I would just pick it right back up.
What I Liked
I got some of my answers answered from The Silver Swan and then some. I wasn’t expecting all these secrets to come out. It answers those questions but it also gave me a TON of new questions I need to be answered..
We learned more about the Silver Swan and her connection to the Kings.
But most importantly, you will learn about Madison’s past and how it ties in with her predicament with the Kings.
Madison changed a little in this book. She wasn’t the whiny girl that I thought she was in The Silver Swan. I felt she became harder and not so naive. She wanted to learn as much as she could about the Kings so could take them down and have her future without them hanging over her head.
“I trust no one, and that means no one can hurt me. No one can touch me. I’m untouchable because of this revelation. I can’t be hurt again. I will fight for my control and my freedom for that little girl. For that broken part of me that yearns for it.”
Bishop, Bishop, Bishop. I don’t know if I want to kill Bishop or ask him to choke me. I’m still on the fence about him. I don’t blame anybody who is. I do believe he has feelings for Madison, but does that mean he will choose to do right by her in the end?
What I Didn’t Like
The reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars was because Madison wouldn’t READ THE DAMN BOOK! I swear I screamed for her to read the damn book so many times I should be hoarse. Hell, she hasn’t read the whole damn book. I feel she wouldn’t be hounding for answers to all of the questions she has if she would just read it.
I still forget that these are supposed be high school students. It’s hard to remember when they are hardly ever there and all the death that surrounds them. They are also still as sex crazed as they were in The Silver Swan.
Final Thoughts
I’m going to be in a funk until I can get my hands on book 3. I’m looking forward to Tacet a Mortuis (Whispers from the Dead) so much I might pass out from anticipation. (we know that I’m a drama queen by now). I can’t wait to see how the series is going to end. Fingers crossed she won’t ruin me!
