The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Naturals
Series: The Naturals
Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Check it Out: Goodreads

Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. But, it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI come they’ve begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.

What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides—especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms close. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive.

I needed a change of pace, and this fit the bill. It was exactly as it described, “criminal minds with teenagers”. Everyone had different specialties and the author took her time to really build on that. It was intriguing to see all of these different personalities interact and live in one house.

I liked Cassie as a main character well enough. I wonder how her character will evolve since her mother’s case was solved. As far as the killer and the mystery, I didn’t predict the right person. I was shocked and the author did a good job at throwing us off that person’s trail. It was a bit slow moving at times, but it would soon pick up again once there was another victim found.

We have a love triangle forming here and it’s obvious for me that the best choice is Dean. Him and Cassie have more in common and seem like a good match. Both are guarded and share the profiler specialty. We don’t really know that much about Michael. He didn’t come off as sincere and seems better suited with Lia.

All in all, I enjoyed this and am excited to pick up the next book in this series.
