Micah Abe hadn’t laid eyes on Dolly Dixon, his younger sister’s best friend, in years, but her eyes were the kind you didn’t forget. Even if she’d grown into a woman with a body made for sin, he had recognized that unique shade of amber the moment she had locked her gaze on him. Damn shame he wouldn’t get a taste of her. His sister would cut off his favorite body part if he even considered it. Besides, he was over clingy women, and the way Dolly was holding on to his enemy like she wanted to wrap her legs around him meant she was the needy type.
Problem was he had to save her from herself. Clearly, Dolly was still clueless about life. That much hadn’t changed about her. He’d come here to get back what had been taken from him five years ago, but it looked like he’d be saving Snow White in the process.
Also, Dolly’s grief was never really given any treatment. I don’t know if it’s mentioned, but trigger warning for self harm. Dolly has flashbacks of doing it and also does it in the present. Yes, people know about it and are worried it never goes further. Also, Micah and Dolly commented about her being mentally slow, but it was never touched on. Like did she have a disability or did people just think she was slow? I needed more things to be wrapped up before this book ended.
Overall, it wasn’t terrible but a bit copy/paste and left a lot unanswered.
I think the mentally slow thing was that they thought she was as a kid, but she wasn’t. She calls him out on it at one point, but you’re right that it wasn’t really explained. I do think these books are getting formulaic. I have the next book to read. I’m curious what I’m going to think, especially because it is a duet. Great review!
