Have you ever heard of the old Celtic legends of the Fae – beautiful, magical, deadly and a love of messing with humans just for kicks and giggles?
Welcome to my world.

What started out as a strange assignment, leads to one of the most gruesome murder mysteries of our times and my friends and I are set and determined to find out who is killing off Fae and Witches alike.

Couple of problems in the way – I hate the Fae and the Prince of the Dark Fae is bound and determined that I work for him. He’s a rude, overbearing egotistical ass with a compulsive need to possess, dominate and control me. Oh – did I mention that he is absolutely sex-on-a-stick gorgeous and he makes me feel things that I never ever wanted to feel for a Fae…every time he touches me or looks at me with those golden eyes seems to pull me further in under his spell, despite my better judgment.
My friends and I can’t trust anyone and nothing is as it seems on the surface – not even me.

MY feelingsThis has been on kindle for so long that I feel accomplished just for finally dusting it off. I will say this may have rekindled my love for fae books again. Fighting Destiny had its ups and downs with me. This had dub-con and a lot of rapey vibes at the beginning of this book. Please be warned on that, because I wasn’t and it kind of unsettled me. The Fae in this book have abilities that can turn someone’s brain off and make them only want sex. A few times our main character is threatened with that.

Our characters here both have some issues and need a bit of work. Synthia has her reasons for not trusting the fae and that’s understandable. However, she made some decisions that I can’t even fathom why she would do it. She wanted to stay such a badass that at times she came off annoying. She said she didn’t want to be owned by melted every single time Ryder touched her. Ryder … I really believe that this man is a bipolar sadist. Syn thought she was getting whiplash from him, well she wasn’t the only one. Even though we got snippets of POV from him, it didn’t really help me as a reader get a true feel for his character.

This book is 453 pages and it could have been cut down. There was so much back and forth between our two main characters over things that were repetitive. Along with that, why did I have to wait so long for any sex scenes? With this book being so heavy on the passion we don’t get to see any until over 60% in.

Even after all of this, I have to admit that it kept me reading and guessing. 2 Star Rating

I thought things were bad and weird before – hold on – it’s getting worse.

Adam and I are both going through identity crises of epic proportions as we Transition from who we were, and discover who we were meant to be. More Fae are dying, and I feel as if time is running out for us to find all of those responsible and put an end to the killings.

The people I thought I could trust have betrayed me and the one person I should absolutely not trust; is taking me deeper and deeper into his world.

Ryder’s secrets are dangerous and devastating.

With each touch and word, he pulls my heart closer to himself and at the same time he is trying to keep me at arm’s length. The dance he and I have begun, is getting more complicated as our worlds are being shaken from all sides, and the visions of the future are frightening, and nothing like I had ever pictured for myself or those I care for.

This time, destiny is taunting me.

I had always thought that I controlled my destiny. Now, my rights are being taken from me by powerful people and leaving me with alternatives that range between bad and awful.

This time, the choices I have to make can decide the fate of both worlds.

Everything is unraveling, and nothing will ever be the same again.

MY feelings
Another book in this series that is over 400 pages when it didn’t have to be. There is so much back and forth and repetition between her and Ryder and even her and Adam. We spent so much time in these relationships to get nothing out of them.

Synthia and Ryder are great together .. in bed. Outside of that, I don’t really see anything that would make them have a withstanding relationship. There’s nothing really there. Synthia came to the conclusion that she is in love with Ryder, while all we got from him was that he’s obsessed with having sex with her. I need more.

I don’t know how Adam got thrown into this, but that’s just a hard no.

We learned more about Synthia’s history and where she came from finally. I thought we were never going to figure that out. I was surprised and I’m curious to see how things will go from here. I did download the next book. However, I’m still trying to figure out if it’s because I’m really interested or if I’m just a masochist.2 Star Rating

  1. Sorry, I know I’m like 2 months late on this one, but it seems to me that this is very much Hutchins’ style. I really liked the first two books in the Monsters series (years ago when I read them), and then the third book was a hot mess with what felt like totally different characters. But then when I heard there was a fourth book coming, I went back to try and reread the first two — and I just didn’t enjoy them as much. There was no companionship in their relationship. It was all sex and some magical drive to be together, without any actual feelings or reasons.
